What this site collects.

As little as it can, and nothing before a visitor says yes.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to see which guides are read. It does not load at all until a visitor chooses to allow it — after a decline, no analytics script runs and no analytics cookie is set. The choice is stored in the visitor’s browser, not on a server.

Comments

A comment is stored with the name given, the comment itself, and an email address. The address is stored encrypted, is never published and never sold, and is only there so that a reply can be sent.

Three more things are kept alongside it, none of them readable as a person. A scrambled fingerprint of the address, so that a returning commenter can be recognised — or an abusive one blocked — without the address itself being read. A scrambled form of the IP address that changes every day, which is enough to notice a flood of comments from one place and not enough to identify a reader. And the browser description that a device sends with every request.

When the comment form is first touched, a check from Cloudflare (Turnstile) runs in the browser to tell people from bots. Cloudflare sees the visitor’s IP address and some details of the browser to do that, under its own privacy policy. It does not load until the form is touched, and it sets no advertising cookies.

Every comment is read by a person before it appears. A comment, and everything stored with it, is deleted on request.

Offline reading

Pages that have been opened are kept in the browser, so that a guide can still be read if the connection drops. Those copies stay on the device and are never sent anywhere. Clearing this site’s data in the browser removes them.

The letter

Subscribing stores one email address, encrypted, and sends a single email asking you to confirm it. Until that link is followed, nothing else is ever sent — an address somebody else typed in costs you one message and no more.

Every letter carries an unsubscribe link, and your mail app’s own unsubscribe button works too. Either one takes effect immediately and needs no login. Nothing tracks whether a letter was opened or a link in it was followed.

Affiliate links

Some outbound links are affiliate links. When one is followed, the destination site may set its own cookie to attribute a booking. That happens on their site under their policy, not this one.

Asking, correcting, deleting

Anyone can ask what this site holds about them, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, and it will be done. For a correction or a question, email hello@theventuresomes.com.
